WilmaNet is a wireless (or WiFi) Internet access service completely free of charge and runned by Ital GM on behalf of Trento's City Council.

Thanks to WilmaNet anyone, such as students, teachers, tourists and professionals, can surf on the Internet, free of charge, from the centre of Trento within the area of coverage of the service as indicated on the map shown here on the left (also identified as the "Wilma2" area since the current area of coverage is already the result of an expansion of the original area). So by using laptops, palm-tops and mobile phones with wireless technology you can connect using broadband from public areas or by simply moving across the area covered by the service such as streets, squares and so on.

Started in 2005 as an experimental project financed by the Fondo Progetti della Provincia Autonoma di Trento, WILMA that stands for Wireless Internet and Location Management Architecture is the result of the collaboration between ITC-IRST, Trento University and the City Council of Trento. After the good results achieved during this experimental phase, the City Council has taken the decision to re-activate the service by obtaining in concession all the instrumentation. In 2007 the wireless network gets extended in order to cover the entire centre area of the city and from May 2008 the university area in Via Verdi, Piazza Garzetti and Via Mazzini. WilmaNet is runned by the ICT co. Ital GM.

In order to access and use WilmaNet, it's simply necessary to register yourself by using the online pre-registration section (click here to access the form) available on this portal and then complete the registration process by going personally to one of the Registration Offices purposely available with a valid ID document (click here to access the FAQ section of this portal and check out all the details related to users' registration procedures).
Once verified your ID and your details for subscription to the service, the registration is immediatelly carried out ; as part of this registration, you'll obtain a user id and a password and you'll be ready to immediatelly access the Internet on broadband.
